If you type "autism" into Google you get over 700,000 pages.

Type "autistic" for another 200,000 plus.

And "Asperger" scores another 100,000.

So there are at least a million web pages that mention autism.Do not worry. I am not going to list them all !!

All I list are the sites that I find useful. I have a special interest in Asperger Syndrome so AS sites are probably over represented. I am not too enthused by the MMR debate so you will not find many vaccine related sites here.

THIS IS A RESULT OF MY PERSONAL PREFERENCES. Autism is a vast and expanding area of interest. If your particular interests do not match mine I have tried to provide at least one link that will take you to a useful starting point. I am also aware that most autism related sites are American. So I have tried to redress the balance with sites from Europe. This is not anti-American bias. And to prove it I begin with a couple of my favourite sites from the USA.

Mostly about Asperger Syndrome

The Gray Center for Social Learning and Understanding.
This quote from the home page says it all. "Dedicated to individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and those who work alongside them to improve mutual understanding."

O.A.S.I.S. ONLINE ASPERGER SYNDROME INFORMATION AND SUPPORT
Barb Kirby's Asperger Syndrome site is a massive achievement - highly recommended.

Tony Attwood has probably done more than anyone else to spread understanding of Asperger Syndrome around the world. And he has sold more books than me. But I am not bitter, just jealous.

Autism in General

This is the home page of the National Autistic Society in the UK. It is the best starting point for people in Britain. It also contains a comprehensive set of documents in pdf format that discuss most of the issues in autism. The links page will take you to some of the best international web sites, email lists and personal accounts of autism.

Alt Support Autism FAQ

Written by autistics for autistics and the rest of us, this is the FAQ for the usenet group alt.support.autism now being hosted by John Muggleton. John also hosts Wendy Lawson's pages on the same site, as well as the Surrey NAS Website.

Surrey NAS

It is an excellent resource and a tribute to John Muggleton's committment to autism and his web skills.

Sites by autistic people

Many autistic people are known for their computer skills and here are just a few of the many sites created by them.

alt.support.autism links page

This is the best page to find links to the web sites of people who post on alt.support.autism. Most of them are autistic

InternAUT hosts chat rooms for autistic people.

Larry Arnold is an autistic adult with a strong desire to help people with disabilities to be accepted and have their needs met and their wishes respected.

Worldapart is a new site by an old friend who could teach me a thing or two about web design and frequently does. Kalen also wrote most of the code for the asa faq

Diets, Vaccines and things that go burp in the night

http://osiris.sunderland.ac.uk/autism/index.html

If you are interested in gluten/casein free diets, the MMR controversy and biological interventions for autism then Paul Shattock's Autism Research Unit is a reliable guide to the issues.

Commercial sites

Jessica Kingsley publishes the best books about autism in the UK, like mine. She also publishes Tony Attwood. Still, nobody's perfect :-)

I will be adding other sites. Email me if you want me to link to your site.
